Welcome Fellow Community Members to our weeklyCommunity Contest, your one-stop place for you to win exciting prizes.
A new contest will be announced on Monday of each week. Next Contest: 25th Nov '24
We want to give our lovely community members a fun and enjoyable way to win some bitcoin. Check out the contest below:
:: Hit The Asteroid!
Introduction:
An asteroid bigger than the size of Mount Everest is on a collision course with Earth, and its impact is guaranteed in two months. Humanity has little time to act, and every decision could mean the difference between survival and extinction.
In this contest, you are to devise a plan to respond to the impending catastrophe. You can take on the role of your present self, a world leader, a scientist, or a member of a survivalist group, or you can take a completely unconventional approach.
You can choose to devise a plan that just saves you, your loved ones, your country, or humanity as a whole. It is completely up to you what role you are taking and who your plan saves.
Note: This event is set in the real world with its current technology, developments, leadership, challenges, and differences.
How to Participate?
Your Role: What role did you take on to tackle this emergency?
The Plan: Your plan to respond to this impending catastrophe in about 200-400 words.
The most creative, imaginative, and shockingly bizarre answer(s) win!
Deadline: 24th November 2024, 11.59 PM EST.
1 winner,
Prize: $50

Taking on the role of a Global Crisis Coordinator appointed by the UN, I’m tasked with leading a collaborative, international effort to prevent the asteroid from striking Earth or mitigate its devastating effects.
The Plan: “Operation Deflect and Protect”
Phase 1: Identify and Analyze (Week 1)
Enhanced Observation: Mobilize all space agencies, including NASA, ESA, ISRO, and CNSA, to monitor the asteroid’s trajectory and characteristics. Use telescopes and radar systems to determine its composition, size, and exact impact location.
Predictive Models: Employ AI-powered simulations to predict the impact zone and aftermath, focusing on high-risk regions.
Phase 2: Deflection Mission (Weeks 2-6)
Kinetic Impact: Launch a coordinated kinetic impactor mission, akin to NASA’s DART experiment, targeting the asteroid’s center of mass to slightly alter its trajectory. This requires rapid production of impactor spacecraft by major aerospace companies.
Nuclear Option: If kinetic impact fails, prepare a nuclear detonation mission, designed to push the asteroid off course rather than destroy it (to avoid dangerous fragments). Global leaders must agree on nuclear protocols.
Phase 3: Ground Preparation (Weeks 2-8)
Evacuation and Shelters: Mobilize nations to construct large-scale underground shelters and relocate populations from predicted impact zones. Pre-existing bunkers and metro systems can be repurposed.
Emergency Supplies: Distribute food, medical supplies, and communication devices globally. Use military and private cargo fleets for expedited delivery.
Climate Impact Mitigation: Stockpile resources to counteract post-impact nuclear winter scenarios, including UV lamps for agriculture and water purification systems.
Phase 4: Communication and Unity (Weeks 1-8)
Unified Command: Establish a global command center for coordinated decision-making.
Public Awareness: Provide transparent, fact-based updates to reduce panic. Utilize social media and news outlets to encourage preparedness.
Outcome:
If successful, the deflection mission averts catastrophe, ensuring humanity’s survival. If deflection fails, the global preparedness effort minimizes casualties and equips humanity to rebuild after the impact.
In this real-world scenario, humanity’s combined ingenuity, resources, and collaboration are our best chance of survival.
